3rd Division (South Vietnam)

The 3rd Division of the Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN)—the army of the nation state of South Vietnam that existed from 1955 to 1975—was part of the I Corps that oversaw the northernmost region of South Vietnam, the centre of Vietnam.
The 3rd Division was based in Quang Ngai, around 300 km south of the DMZ. The Division was initially raised in October 1971 in Quảng Trị. One regiment was from the 1st Division (the 2nd Infantry Regiment).
Composed of 2nd Inf Regt, 56th Inf Regt, and 57th Inf Regt. Based at Da Nang. Collapsed in the 1972 Easter Offensive and was reconstituted and destroyed at Da Nang in 1975.〔http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/vietnam/rvn-arvn-3-div.htm〕
